Wenn am 16. und 17. Juni 2023 die zweite Runde zur FIM Sidecar World Championship ausgetragen wird, werden die Brüder Ben und Tom Birchall von der Konkurrenz gejagt. Die Briten haben beim Saisonauftakt nicht nur die Pole Position geholt und beide Rennen gewonnen, sondern auch die schnellsten Runden gedreht. Gelingt ihnen das auch in Spa-Francorchamps? Der Serienpromoter und Ausrichter Motor-Presse Stuttgart stellt auch von der belgischen Rennstrecke einen Live-Stream zur Verfügung, in dem das Sprintrace am Freitag sowie auch das Hauptrennen am Samstag exklusiv von überall aus verfolgt werden können.
Insgesamt 19 Gespannteams werden an der WM-Runde in Belgien teilnehmen. Die Birchall-Brüder sind derzeit gut in Fahrt. Seit anderthalb Wochen haben sie auch einen Doppelsieg bei der Tourist Trophy auf dem Konto. In der Sidecar-WM führen sie nach dem Saisonauftakt das Feld bereits mit 20 Punkten Vorsprung vor Harrison Payne/Kevin Rousseau an. Ihnen wiederum folgen die Titelverteidiger Todd Ellis/Emanuelle Clement. Wenn es nach ihnen und den Top Ten-Teams wie Stephen Kershaw/Ryan Charlwood, Pekka Päivärinta/Ilse de Haas, Bennie Streuer/Kevin Kölsch oder Josef Sattler/Luca Schmidt geht, soll der Abstand zur Spitze in Spa-Francorchamps aber gehörig schrumpfen. Das Zeitfenster ist knapp bemessen. Innerhalb von 27 Stunden fallen alle Entscheidungen.
Josef Sattler hat inzwischen den Entschluss gefasst, nicht nur die komplette Saison in der Internationalen Deutschen Motorradmeisterschaft (IDM) zu fahren. Der Deutsche Meister von 2022 will auch alle WM-Rennen bestreiten, deshalb ist er auch in Belgien am Start. „Spa ist eine komplett neue Strecke für mich. Wir müssen zurecht finden und uns von Training zu Training steigern“, sagt der Bayer.

Hunt for the Birchall brothers in Spa
When the second round of the FIM Sidecar World Championship is held on 16 and 17 June 2023, brothers Ben and Tom Birchall will be hunted by the competition. The Brits not only took pole position at the season opener and won both races, but also set the fastest laps. Can they do the same at Spa-Francorchamps? The series promoter and organiser, Motor-Presse Stuttgart, will also provide a live stream from the Belgian circuit, where the sprint race on Friday as well as the main race on Saturday can be followed exclusively from anywhere.
A total of 19 harness teams will take part in the World Championship round in Belgium. The Birchall brothers are doing well at the moment. Since one and a half weeks they also have a double victory in the Tourist Trophy under their belt. In the Sidecar World Championship, they already lead the field after the season opener by 20 points ahead of Harrison Payne/Kevin Rousseau. They in turn are followed by the defending champions Todd Ellis/Emanuelle Clement. If they and the top ten teams like Stephen Kershaw/Ryan Charlwood, Pekka Päivärinta/Ilse de Haas, Bennie Streuer/Kevin Kölsch or Josef Sattler/Luca Schmidt have their way, the gap to the top should shrink considerably in Spa-Francorchamps. The time window is tight. All decisions will be made within 27 hours.
Josef Sattler has meanwhile decided not only to race the entire season in the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM). The 2022 German champion also wants to contest all the World Championship races, which is why he is also competing in Belgium. „Spa is a completely new track for me. We have to find our way around and improve from practice to practice,“ says the Bavarian.
