The Future Begins Now: The New Sportbike Class Debuts in the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) 2025

The new sportbike class will make its debut in the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) in 2025 – one year before becoming officially part of the World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK). This gives young talents from the age of 15 in Central Europe a unique opportunity to prepare for the next step in their careers early and gain a crucial competitive advantage for their entry into the world championship.

The season opener will take place on May 9 at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. In total, seven race weekends with two scoring heats each are on the schedule. Iconic tracks such as Schleizer Dreieck, the World Championship circuits Most and Assen, the GP track at the Nürburgring, and the legendary Hockenheimring provide the perfect stage. The new class replaces Supersport 300 as the junior category, aligning with manufacturers‘ requests as they have adapted their model ranges in recent years to meet the growing interest in more powerful machines within the A2 license category.

A wide selection of competitive bikes will be available, including the Aprilia RS660, Kawasaki Ninja 650, Triumph Daytona 660, and Yamaha YZF-R7. Thanks to standardized electronics, the performance of the various motorcycles will be adjusted to around 95 hp. All details can be found in the Technical & Sporting Regulations 2025.

Another advantage: Costs remain manageable in the new class. A race-ready Triumph, including the standardized electronics, costs approximately €21,000 net, while the entry fee per event is just €750 net.

Beyond this unique opportunity, the IDM also provides strong media exposure through its high-reach livestream, ensuring vital visibility for participating riders, teams, and sponsors. All sportbike class races will be fully covered as part of the IDM live broadcast.

After its debut in the British Superbike Championship (BSB) in 2024, where it has now firmly established itself, the sportbike class will also launch in the Italian CIV championship alongside IDM in 2025.

Am 9. Mai steht in der MotorsportArena Oschersleben der Saisonstart für die neue Sportbike-Klasse in der Internationalen Deutschen Motorradmeisterschaft (IDM) auf dem Kalender. Das Premierenjahr ist speziell und das Beste daran ist: Noch nie konnten sich die jungen Wilden besser auf den nächsten Karrieresprung vorbereiten. Von der FIM ist das Format nämlich erst für 2026 im Rahmen der World Superbike-Events geplant. In der IDM geht es schon 2025 los und macht die Klasse allein schon deshalb über die Landesgrenzen hinaus hochinteressant. Den Vorsprung kann keiner nehmen.

Sieben Termine mit je zwei Rennen sind festgelegt. Die Stationen heißen Oschersleben, Schleiz, Most, Assen, Nürburgring und Hockenheim. Die neue Sportbike-Klasse löst dabei die bisherige Nachwuchsklasse Supersport 300 ab. Die Begeisterung für die kleine Kategorie hielt sich zuletzt von Fahrern, Teams und auch von den Herstellern in Grenzen. Gerade für die Marken besitzen die stärkeren Modelle auf dem Markt eine deutlich höhere Relevanz. Dazu kommt, dass der Pool potenziell einzusetzender Motorräder mit der Yamaha YZF-R7, Kawasaki Ninja 650, Triumph Daytona 660 und Aprilia RS660 weitaus größer ist.

Die Kosten sind übersichtlich. Das Nenngeld liegt bei 750 Euro netto pro Veranstaltung. Eine rennfertig aufgebaute Triumph mit Elektronik kostet beispielsweise 21.000,00 Euro netto. Lediglich die Übersetzung kommt noch hinzu. Über die Einheitselektronik werden die unterschiedlichen Motorenkonzepte auf ein Leistungsniveau von circa 95 PS angeglichen. Der Einstieg in die Klasse ist ab 15 Jahren möglich.

Alle Rennen der IDM Sportbike werden selbstverständlich auch Teil der IDM-Liveberichterstattung sein und in vollem Umfang übertragen. Zeitgleich wird die italienische Meisterschaft CIV den Schritt gehen und erstmals eine Sportbike-Saison ausrichten. In der britischen Meisterschaft BSB ist die Klasse bereits eingeführt.
