Noch genau zwei Wochen bis zum Auftakt der Internationalen Deutschen Motorradmeisterschaft (IDM) auf dem Sachsenring. Der Countdown läuft und auch das Fahrerfeld in der FIM Sidecar World Championship ist inzwischen gespickt mit großen Namen.
Das Dream-Team Todd Ellis/Emanuelle Clement hat sich für die WM-Titelverteidigung gerüstet. Das britisch-französische Pärchen hat im Vorfeld Mitte April schon am ersten schottischen Sidecar-Festival in East Fortune teilgenommen und ist dort auf ihre Konkurrenten Stephen Kershaw und Ryan Charlwood getroffen – die späteren Rennsieger. Beide fuhren in ihrer eigenen Liga und ein Augenzeuge berichtete, dass er noch nie einen Seitenwagen oder ein Solomotorrad durch die Kurve „Hannah’s“ fahren sehen habe. Das Ergebnis aus der Vorsaison hat noch nichts zu sagen, außer: Es wird auf jeden Fall spannend an der WM-Spitze. Kershaw/Charlwood sind die Gesamt-Dritten des Vorjahres und rein rechnerisch jetzt am nahesten dran an Ellis/Clement. Vize Markus Schlosser hat den Helm an den Nagel gehängt.
Die Schweizer Lukas Wyssen/Thomas Hofer wiederum hatten als Vierte auch nur 14 Punkte Rückstand auf Kershaw/Charlwood. Und was kommt von Multi-Weltmeister Tim Reeves, der sich zuletzt auf die IDM konzentriert und jetzt wieder mit seinem Ex-Beifahrer Mark Wilkes zusammengespannt hat? Und wo finden sich die bisherigen IDM-Gespanne überhaupt wieder, die jetzt alle automatisch an der WM teilnehmen? Wie weit bringen es die Deutschen Meister Josef Sattler/Luca Schmidt? Die Karten in der FIM Sidecar World Championship sind völlig neu verteilt. Die Motor Presse Stuttgart als neuer Promoter wird neuen Schwung in die Serie bringen.
19 Teams haben sich eingeschrieben. Am Freitag, dem 12. Mai 2023, finden auf dem Sachsenring Trainings und das erste Qualifying statt. Am Samstag, dem 13. Mai 2023, werden das Abschluss-Qualifying und ein Sprintrennen ausgetragen. Es geht über elf Runden. Das Hauptrennen am Sonntag wird 20 Runden haben.

FIM Sidecar: Just under four handfuls of teams on the grid
There are exactly two weeks to go until the opening round of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) at the Sachsenring. The countdown is on and the field of riders in the FIM Sidecar World Championship is now also peppered with big names.
The dream team Todd Ellis/Emanuelle Clement has geared up for the World Championship title defence. The British-French pair already took part in the first Scottish Sidecar Festival in East Fortune in mid-April and met their rivals Stephen Kershaw and Ryan Charlwood there – the eventual race winners. Both raced in their own league and one eyewitness reported that he had never seen a sidecar or solo bike go through the „Hannah’s“ corner. The pre-season result has nothing to say yet, except: It will definitely be exciting at the top of the world championship. Kershaw/Charlwood are last year’s overall bronze medallists and, in purely mathematical terms, are now closest to Ellis/Clement. Vice-man Markus Schlosser has hung up his helmet.

The cards in the FIM Sidecar World Championship have been completely redistributed. Motor Presse Stuttgart as the new promoter will bring new momentum to the series.
19 teams have signed up. On Friday, 12 May 2023, training sessions and the first qualifying session will take place at the Sachsenring. On Saturday, 13 May 2023, the final qualifying and a sprint race will be held. It will be over eleven laps. The main race on Sunday will have 20 laps.
